EXO And CL Attend Press Conference Ahead Of PyeongChang Olympics Closing Ceremony

On February 21, EXO and CL shared their thoughts at the press conference for the closing ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

Baekhyun commented, “We prepared a lot for year-end shows, but we felt that we had to prepare more than those award shows. It is a great honor, but we also practiced feeling a lot of burden. We are excited at the thought of showcasing great performances.”Suho added, “Not a single EXO member existed during the 1988 Olympics, and now I cannot believe that we are taking the stage at the closing ceremony for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. While watching the opening and closing ceremonies in other countries, I thought that it’s really incredible to go on that stage. Now that EXO is doing so, it is a new feeling, and I think tears might fall after we complete our performance.”

When asked about Russian figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva who has expressed her love for EXO, Suho revealed that they sent her a signed album. He also gave the supportive message, “I hope you will compete healthily without any injuries.”

On which athletes they want to meet, Suho shared that he wants to meet skeleton racer Yun Sung Bin. Chanyeol mentioned curler Kim Young Mi, drawing laughter as he explained, “My mother’s name is Lee Young Mi, and they keep on calling the name Young Mi, so I was reminded of my mom a lot.”CL commented on performing at the closing ceremony, “I am so honored to be invited and take the stage at a celebration that the entire world watches, and I think it is more meaningful because it is in Korea. I hope everyone will anticipate it and enjoy the performance together.”

On her performance, she added, “Rather than explaining it with words, it is best to just show you.”

When asked when she found out about the closing ceremony, she responded, “I found out three months ago. There was a preliminary meeting beforehand also. It was very important to me. I had to prepare well, and there was the request to not tell anyone. It was a mission, and I kept the secret.”

CL continued, “After my participation was revealed, many people congratulated me. I put in all my effort to prepare.”The closing ceremony for the PyeongChang Olympics will be held on February 25 at 8 p.m. KST.

15 K-Pop Artists Who Took The World By Storm In 2017

2017 was quite a year for K-pop. From climbing Billboard charts to trending worldwide on Twitter, K-pop was unstoppable! Will world domination be next on that list? For these 15 artists, we definitely think so! Check out our nominees for this year’s Artist of the Year below.

TWICE

Releasing hit after hit, TWICE bopped to the top in 2017! TWICE’s first studio album “Twicetagram” became the fastest-selling album by a K-pop girl group (since 2002), when they reached 100,000 unit sales within three days of the album’s release. “Twicetagram” also placed No.19 on Billboard’s 20 Best K-pop Albums of 2017. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, TWICE became the first female K-pop artists to top both of Billboard’s World Charts.

Their achievements weren’t just limited to Korea. In Japan, “#Twice” charted at No. 2 on the Oricon Daily Album Chart, as well as the Oricon Weekly Album Chart. TWICE was also selected as one of the winners of the 2017 Oricon Queen Award.

It also set the record for the most No.1 albums on the chart by a K-pop girl group.

This summer’s anthem, “Red Flavor,” was the first song from Red Velvet to top Gaon and their fifth song to sell over a million copies. “Peek-a-Boo” was also a mega hit: it peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart.

And last, but not least, the fandom was finally named! Red Velvet revealed their fanclub name, ReVeluv, on the 1000th day anniversary of their debut.

HOTSHOT’s Timoteo Talks About His Close Group Of Friends And Getting To Know Ji Hansol On “The Unit”

HOTSHOT’s Timoteo recently opened up about his budding friendship with Ji Hansol on “The Unit,” as well as his close group of friends who are affectionately called “Friendship Parkas” by fans.

During “The Unit,” Timoteo had the opportunity to become friends with many other idols, but he spent much of his time with NewKidd’s Ji Hansol. He said, “Though we were both once SM Entertainment trainees, we didn’t actually have any interactions back then. Kai is the one who introduced us to each other later on because he felt like Hansol and I were in similar situations. I heard that he had been active as a dancer for a while, and we ended up on ‘The Unit’ together. Hansol is very cute and is like a baby sometimes.”

Timoteo also looked back on an emotional moment in the show, when SHINee’s Taemin had broken down in tears after seeing his close friend auditioning for the show. Saying that his friend’s tears had been a source of motivation for him, Timoteo shared that he had spoken to Taemin right after the audition. He said, “Instead of saying sweet and empty words of encouragement, he gave me realistic advice like ‘You have to do better,’ and ‘You’ve trained for a long time, so you have to do well.’ His words pushed me to work even harder to do better.”

Not only did Timoteo receive the support of Taemin, but his entire group of close friends as well. HOTSHOT’s Timoteo, SHINee’s Taemin, EXO’s Kai, HOTSHOT and Wanna One’s Ha Sung Woon, BTS’s Jimin, and their non-celebrity friend Kwon Ho are well-known for their tight friendship and are often called “Friendship Parkas.” This is because they ordered parkas with a customized logo on them that signifies their friendship. Timoteo noted that it was a name given to them by fans, as they didn’t have an official name for their friendship.

He shared, “There are a lot of people who think that because we’re all famous, we probably do unusual or extravagant things together when we hang out. But none of us really drink, so we just go out for coffee together, check out good restaurants, and chat. Sometimes, we stay home and play games together. We’re all pretty introverted, and we like to form a few, deep friendships.”

Timoteo continued on to say, “None of us really treat each other like celebrities, we’re just a group of friends. I think the moment you start seeing your friend as a celebrity, you start building a wall between the two of you. We’ve been friends for over ten years, and now we’re more like family. It never feels awkward, even if we’re meeting up for the first time in a while. We plan to go traveling together when we have the time.”

SHINee’s Key, EXO’s Xiumin, And Red Velvet’s Seulgi Call BoA To Support Her During First Live Broadcast

SM artists showed their support for BoA during her first live broadcast on Naver’s V Live.

On February 19, BoA held a broadcast for the upcoming release of her mini album “One Shot, Two Shot.” She asked fellow SM Entertainment artists for tips on how to do a V Live well and received three phone calls.

Red Velvet’s Seulgi called her first and said, “I’m watching your V Live right now. You’re doing well.” When BoA asked her about the app, Seulgi explained, “Through V Live, you can show your everyday life and get closer with fans. It’s good to do it often.” BoA admitted, “I’m confused. It’s hard to do it by myself.”

Seulgi also told her that after the group’s latest promotions, she was resting during Lunar New Year, and would be returning to work the next day. They then talked about previously promoting Red Velvet’s “Bad Boy” and BoA’s “NEGA DOLA” at the same time.

BoA said, “I was happy we promoted during the same time. I should’ve bought you something yummy, but we were both busy so I wasn’t able to.” Seulgi responded, “It was such an honor for us to promote with you. Next time, we’ll come see you.” BoA promised to exchange numbers with her and buy her food next time.

EXO member Xiumin was the second person to call BoA during her live broadcast. He expressed happiness in seeing her on TV often and brought up something he saw on her reality program “Keyword #BoA.” Xiumin suggested they get together and gather the best drinkers from each group. BoA said, “[TVXQ’s] Changmin drinks too well.”

She praised Xiumin and described him as “the member who is in charge of drawing in new fans” and “the oldest member who has a lot of cuteness.” After hearing that he was waiting to go into the recording studio, she told him to take care of his throat and to record well.

Xiumin concluded the phone call by saying, “You are our pride. You are one of the artists I trust and watch. When you perform, I will go see you like last time. Go BoA!”

SHINee’s Key was the last phone call of the night. The two artists recently showed their close friendship on her reality show. Key commented that BoA looked burdened during her V Live and asked why she hadn’t asked him to join her. BoA replied, “No it’s because you know me too well so you can see things like that, but I’m doing well. I need to get used to broadcasting alone.”

BoA then asked him how SHINee’s concert went and Key replied that he performed well and was currently resting. “I’m proud of you, you worked hard,” she told him.

Key helped her promote her upcoming track by saying, “‘One Shot, Two Shot’ is an easy-listening track, which BoA is releasing for the first time in a while. After you listen to it once, you can’t forget the chorus. It’s that kind of song.”

The artist laughed and accused him of reading off of an article. Key replied, “I’m not! This kind of description shows up on [music programs like] ‘Inkigayo.’” She ended their conversation after asking if he ate dinner, thanking him for calling, and promising to call him after the broadcast.

BoA’s mini album “One Shot, Two Shot” will be released on February 20 at 6 p.m. KST.
